First things first, I would like to apologize for my absence.
It has been a good three months since I last uploaded an article on here. Duty calls as an adult to do adult things. However, I am back here, and hopefully, I can grace your screens once more. Consider this Project Restart (shoutout to the Premier League)
Since I last wrote an article, there have been many films that have been circulating. I have a lot of catching up to do in sharing with you the latest movies! So with that in mind, I would like kickstart with Enola Holmes.
*Disclaimer* Spoiler Alert!
I will say that it is a great film to watch as a family with kids. I think the role that Mille Bobby-Brown plays as child detective Enola Holmes appeals very well to the children who will be watching the film- primarily for how she breaks the fourth wall and engages with the audience. I will admit that it was quite engaging and the way she interacted with other characters.
For example, the budding romance that she has with Tewkesbury as she tries to save his life, it was endearing. Enola's relationship with her brothers and I can understand why. It would be complicated to develop a relationship between Enola and Sherlock without the former feeling overshadowed or on the periphery.
The storyline of the film was muddled and not clear. I couldn't make out what the main plot was. Was Enola looking for her mother, or was she trying to save Tewkesbury's life from an unusual guy trying to kill him? The lack of clarity or apparent direction made it very easy to lose interest in the film.
I would have loved to have seen Helena Bonham Carter's character a lot more, who played Enola's mother, Eudoria. We only really saw her in flashbacks and at the end of the film. It was instrumental in the way that the filmmakers conveyed her character in the movie. Eudoria's presence and impact were keenly felt, based on what other characters had to say about her and the little snippets we saw of her in flashbacks.
I imagine we will get a sequel for the film, and to be honest, I hope we do. There's a lot of potential for this to flourish as a series. However, if they are going to do this, they need to have a more apparent storyline and better character development. Otherwise, it will just be a waste of money and time for everyone.
If you have seen the film, I would love to know your thoughts; share them down below in the comments, or leave me a message.
However if you haven't seen this already, I still think you should see it, especially if you want to entertain your kids or you want to switch off from the world.
I bid you adieu, till next time.
